Happiness

Ankit gave me a call today, and I was surprised to hear his voice for it was so long that we spoke. It took some time, for reality to sink in.We were fast friends in college and throughout our time in Reliance, we shared similar life experiences & kept  good relationship. It wouldn't be wrong if I say he was my best friend. Later, he took to pursue his MBA and I to Civil Service preparation. And my self imposed solitary life changed things  around.I have only myself to blame for not keeping in touch with my friends.

However, after hearing from him my happiness had no leaps and bounds.Suddenly, I wished I was back in BIT Mesra, hostel 5B, where we had shared neighboring rooms. Those movies, early walks to college, talks- chit chats ..entire gamut of activities. all seems as if, it just happened yesterday.

Hope to seen him when he comes back to India.

fallacy of Natural science

Why is natural science an ever evolving revered field of study??

Probably its because proponents of science believe that its has a self corrective mechanism and therefore, cannot hide the truth from revealing itself for all times.

But , then what is this self corrective mechanism???

The procedure adopted that verifiable truth only can be incorporated as science and also by premising its discoveries with mathematical equations.

These mathematical equations and backing often tends to opine/create  truth absolute.

Absoluteness is something that cannot be attained and its unnatural.

However, with  time scientist are obsessed with creating absolute mathematical model and empirical proposition.

And, consequently are trapped in the vicious circle of finding the absolute, but , the fact of the matter is the absolute is non attainable.

No, I'm not being pessimist but  realistically absoluteness is absent.

Therefore, mathematical representation, backing  science holds no real sense.

The more one falls on mathematics for answer the more he is trapped in the limbo of unattainable.

Indian Middle class

Jagdish bhagwati and Arving panagariya in a syndicated article "the bell tolls for congress party" writes that the aggrieved middle class will vote out the congress in 2014.They perceive that the middle class feels that their economic interest is threatened by  ill governance and corruption and this will manifest as angry votes that will push out congress.

No one can categorically say that middle class in India is a homogeneous group.Infact it is layered with high degree of caste and community characteristics- commonly know as "identity politics".

But, if shedding these traditional differences if they vote on economic understanding of the situation, then one can definitely say the celebrated authors were right.

Simultaneously, it also means that our so called middle class is better informed and evolved citizens then.Having said that, is then this elated scenario due to the efforts of the ruled government for the last 5 years. For, its because of them this portion of India tasted the fruits of economic prosperity. If that is true should you vote them out ??

Considering the global gloomy economic scenario and coalition limitation of the government, can't we excuse the congress for the slump? And, about corruption, we need Lokpal- an independent body. This is beyond party and any election.

Is 21st century- "century of GAS" ??

With the advancement of technology more and more unconventional gas reserves are discovered and exploited for daily use."Shale gas" is the main contender on this unconventional segment.US has large reserve of it and is utilising it to the maximum as an alternate fuel.

IAE reports that the gas reserve has double since a decade and prospect looks extremely positive. It would definitely reduce pressure on oil.

But, transportation and storage are problems regarding gas.It is also capital intensive when thinking of liquifying it or developing a pipeline network.

Because of these reason, presently, the gas market is regional and restricted to customers who make long term contract commitment.

However, with time distance and worries of this kind would reduce. This is precisely the reason IEA is so bullish about the gas industry. Moreover, it is environment friendly.

China Model of development

Is the Chinese model of alternative development  worth replicating ?. A Chinese scholar calls it civilisational state  and some say it is appreciable balance between free market system and a fully state controlled system.

For the last 30 years china has been recording amazing growth. But, of late, it is cooling down.As the other major Asian economies, which experienced growth and then flattened, china has also entered this phase.

Laws pertaining to de-listing of companies

 1.Securities contract(regulation) act 1956-SCRA
 2.Companies Act 1956

And, finally, that's it.

Have I reached there.

is it right to call it, a thoughtful give up?

does this lazy period meant, I am not meant to be there?

probably, its too much pot-holes to be filled.

And, I give up- can't read anymore.

I want to live.

I need to find some incentive to live.I need to reclaim my lost goals and desire.I need my life back.

I want to live...

Monday, May 14, 2012

No bakwas.Back to life.

Whom are you fooling around?. You had a dream to serve the nation. You had a dream to be an civil service officer. You left the job for that. You took up the challenge in Delhi. But, now you are down because no one bothers to call you.Hence, you feel lonely here.Stop this bullshit will you and get on with life.

If you have dream protect it.And, stop giving lame reasons. Its up to you to do it or not and take responsibility for your failure. And, own your failures.

Folly Affirmations

"I will never give up".
"I am determined and committed"

All affirmation of this genre are easy to profess and difficult to live with. One would need an indomitable spirit of confidence and composure, which is a rarity and one who own it, makes it large.

So as I hit the new low of my life, I stand alone. No regret.

Between, today I downloaded my e-admit card.Have chalked out a macro plan till exams.Importantly, I have to gain back my lost mind.I need to believe that, for whatever happens I will have to fight it out alone.

Also, I need to think about a Plan-B. No, its not a sign of paucity of self-belief but just being thoughtful of the surprises life can throw at you.

Feels a lot better than last two days.I spoke to Appa and Ammi. Infact, they are the only one's (also my sister) who have stood besides me at all odds.

Have to also improve on my reading and comprehension skills if I have to compete at any level. As I push myself more to study, I understand my reading skills wobble and I fail to comprehend what I read and further, my mind gets lost in some random thoughts.

I know it sounds like some psychological problem. However, I need to get get around it as soon as possible.

Relinquishing The Hindu has also affected me adversely. I have to make it habit to atleast read the online editorials.

How I wish I was back to me normal best with a composed mind.

Internet has also had it pound of flesh.I have to utilize it, rather than using it as a option to vent off my stress.

Between, spend some time on facebook. Tellingly, it is marriage season. One of my school friend Govind says "since his intelligence has touched new low level he decides to marry".I wonder what really he wanted to prove with such propositions.Anyhow, different people has different thoughts and as a rational being we should respect all view points.

So thats it pretty much for the day. And, long night awaits me, let me try making it little bit productive.

Bye for now.

Himalaya to Climb

When I started on this journey I felt I would complete it with ease. Now, things have started to change. I feel lost in this ocean.

Kannan Chettan was right. He said " its a long journey and get support from wherever u can".

Sadly, I don't have the habit asking for help even if badly required. This is something inherent in me.

I think I should say good bye to my recluse life at Delhi and get back home.

Fading away

Got thrashed with Mock 3.

Geography looks like Sanskrit and Current affairs German.

Suddenly, everything starts spinning around me.

I am losing faith in myself, have I made the right choices? Have I put the people dependent upon me at risk?

As these questions stare at me, I stand alone. How much I wished for someone to be around, atlleast for a phone call.

As they say: "true friends are those who stay along at the time of adversity".

Chelsea pulls a rabbit out of the hat!! Surprise

And, Chelsea produces a surprise against Barca in the 1st Leg of the CL.One may call Drogba an undeserved scorer but the commitment and 100% effort put up by  the team as a whole is worth mentioning.Ramires has truly become a Chelsea Man, as he contributes when Chelsea needs him the most.Yesterday, he produced the magical run after getting the long ball pass from Lampard to thread a perfect cross for Drogba to finish.Furthermore,Cech,Cole,Cahill,Mikel Terry all were the Heroes of the match. They produced their magical moment of appreciation. So, In all, 1-0 is a deserving score for the grit and discipline shown and moreover not being intimidated by Barca.Barcelona had 72% overall ball possession and made 24 chances but could not get the ball to the net.Well, putting it clinically, what matters for a win is how many goal you scored. If ball possession was the game all about probably you would need the Post!.

Chelsea Go to Nou Camp with this slight lead but the favorites Bracelona still remain. On a lighter note if chelsea plans to touch the ball in Nou Camp probably they would need carry one separately for themselves.

Anyways, Good show Chelsea hope you would be able to replicate they same result in Nou Camp.

UHC,DMA & Freedom of speech.

UHC: Universal health coverage has to be provided by the government and India cannot depend on Pvt sector to fulfill this moral obligation.

It is highly encouraging to know that India plans to spend 2.3% of its GDP on health sector in the twelfth FYP.The high level expert group of planning commission has chalked out a good plan to roll out UHC, its time for our executive to pull up their socks and deliver.

Along, with a massive spending in health sector, quality assurance mechanism should be built into the system.National accreditation board for hospital and health providers does make an effort in this regard but existence of multiple regulatory bodies and legislation makes things confusing.Hence, a requirement of single regulatory institution with clear mandate is the need of the hour.

Also, there is a need for a national level procurement agency. This body should be responsible for obtaining medicines at relatively lower cost and distributing to the required centres.Since, health is a state subject, centre has to build a consensus on this front.Nevertheless, the aim should be to provide availability, accessibility of medicines in all corners of India at an affordable price.

The recent earthquake and the subsequent tsunami warning tested the preparedness of the state.Since,2004 disaster India is equipped, with better warning systems and with setting up of specialized authority- Disaster Management Authority at the centre and the state level. However, only consistent maintenance of the disaster management rapid force, in terms of response and ability we can say" we are prepared".

West Bengal tops the news papers for all the wrong reasons ever since Mamata Banerjee has sworn in as the CM.Recently, is her authoritative act of censoring the text books, filtering the type of newspaper subscribed for the libraries, and furthermore, arresting the people who lampoon her, is paranoia..This is undemocratic in any sense of the word.Art 19(1) guarantees every citizen freedom is speech and expression.Ms Banerjee's act is sheer show of state power.

alone admist the crowd..

Was feeling awfully low. Can't think of any specific reason.

Logged on to FB, thinking to find someone to talk to.

Was happy to find one of my intimate friend online.Pinged him.Was so eager to have a chat. However, He seemed busy, though he replied with some delay and as was many on Fb.They all seemed happy to be-Posting, commenting, sharing. Why can't I be like that.

Happiness has truly been a lost old  friend.

First time, I felt so alone in that crowded place called FB.

My Dream house..

Away from crowd..away from world... just want to be here with my family... this is heaven for me..

At 26, I'm yet to settle, with career and life.Rather, in a bad shape.A lot to achieve and everything looks so far. However,  losing hope is unlike me.

Tomorrow is yet another Vishu. And, the coming year is so crucial for me, as it would place me on an orbit probably for rest of my life.

Happy Vishu to all.

Pursuit of Happyness..

Christopher Gardner: Hey. Don't ever let somebody tell you... You can't do something. Not even me. All right?
Christopher: All right.
Christopher Gardner: You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want somethin', go get it.

And finally, it takes off.

Read the first chapter of ES.It is an introduction, overview and further prospects of Indian economy  in a nutshell. Often, I found my comprehension disturbed due to foreign words and attention deficiency, but I kept reading at a faster pace.

Interesting to know that India has a external debt of 390 billion USD.Of which around 78% is pvt sector debt and rest Govt. What I fail to understand is that, India has 300 billion USD forex reserve why is it not paying off its debts??

Further It has spoken about reviving the Industries by bringing in more investment.Importance of having more productivity in Agriculture & of having a good savings culture.

Current account deficit has increased is a cause of concern and the need to transfer the burgeoning fuel bill to the consumers, which would entail them knowing the scarcity of the fuel.

Need to be more attentive while reading and further has to retain more.

A Quick Review.

And, since I don't think  will read ES today.

Let me be plain and try answering few questions.

1.Have you lost interest in UPSC??
No, it is just that I have failed to sustain my studying habits.Need to be more consistent and keep up to the planned-system.further has to built some good reading skills.

2.loneliness boon or bane??
Both, sometimes, wished your were here.

3.What keeps you going?
Desire to help, see more people smile &  live with dignity.

4.There are so many other ways to help ppl, so why UPSC?
You can reach a larger number of people effectively

5.Through NGO's also you can do that is int it??
Not to the same extent as capable for a state apparatus. In the case of NGO, you need to raise capital and gather, further resources yourself. But, when selected for a civil service post, it invariably grants you state machinery and authority, .So a good intended person can do many meaningful things at the ordinary people's level.

6.The same rhetoric is echoed by majority of aspirants only to turn corrupt and malicious.

Well, its true that the system pulls and pushes you to change for self centric and vested needs. However, if you are sincere with your principles, you can definitely make a positive change in the system. Not a radical sudden change but rather a realistic, slow and permanent change.

And when everyone thinks for the good of the society,  we all gain.

Hope, you keep that fire burning of  goodness and sincerity. And, when god is with you no one can be against you.

Wasted Time

I thought I would dive into the Economic Survey, but, surprisingly kept surfing till now.Read through some random news and blogs.Between, not random blogs, its those I discontinued reading ever since jumped on to this deep sea challenger known as UPSC prep.Still a long way to go.....

5th April 2012: Kannan Chettan's visit

Today Kannan chettan came.He had to buy some magazine & most importantly Economic Survey.Had a good chat with him and cleared some doubts on  economics concepts. He spoke about the appalling medical examination drill he went through(last stage of UPSC exam). However, I think its almost the same as that of SSB, but for a first timer its shock of his life time....further..... censored.

And , apparently, he has high BP as recorded by the medical board.Well, to be frank his demeanor does not support this claim.Though, scientific facts can defy common understanding. I hope this does not affect his ranking or service option and as silver lining their is one more medical test after the rank list is published.

In all, felt nice talking to him, as its been a long time spoken to someone.

Further, it was heartening to know that he was going on a picnic to Ranikhet. And,I guess it would  be change for Himani chechi also, from her mundane house-office life.Furthermore, trip will help kannan chettan to maintain a good state of mind. Its been a long journey for him.

In this marathon race,  I believe its the one of the most important thing one should have - a good state of mind And,a good state of mind entails that one may be able to absorb the maximum(information & further knowledge).

Undoubtedly, the exam span of UPSC discourages even the most determined. Its a year long exam and even after the mains exam one has to prepare for the next year prelims as the final results would be published only few weeks before the prelims. So in case one fails to clear he should be in position to compete for next year(surely if only he intends to).

hmm.. so thats how it goes... it will be interesting to see how long I persists.

Also, got some useful tips from kannan chettan & hopes it will come handy in the preparation.

Anyways, bye for now; intents to read 1st chapter of ES today.

So, good night.

Between checked out Ranikhet on google.- Looks like its a beautiful place.Hope to visit it some day.

4th April 2012: "coup"..

Its been an odd day.Started off with a farce "Coup" story on IE.Can't believe IE did that, first page news which read like an shoddy writing defying all rational dispositions.

Further, the US announcing a bounty of 10 million USD on Saeed Hafeez is a positive development for India. But, interesting was Hafeez's reply. He said" I'm a free man in Pakistan, if US want, they can come and meet me". That's a strong slap on Obama Administration.

Tellingly, world can do nothing to Saeed Hafeez without Pakistan's support. And, since now US has a strained relation with Pakistan I don't see much materializing with this bounty rhetoric.

EC's countermanding of Rajya Sabha election in Jharkhand  was a necessary decision. It is know fact that money power was controlling election in general and buying of  RS seats in particular. So, India was not baffled by this news. However, undoubtedly, it is a shame on our democracy.

Mission I'mpossible- Reading the Economic Survey completely. And, I start this mission today. The major hurdle is understanding the terms and concepts being used.Furthermore, only then, I would grasp crux of survey. It will be time consuming exercise and hope to complete it...

So... bye ... more update on that later.

3rd April,2012.

Talked to Vipin chettan afer a long time.It seems like he was in Culcutta, on the way back home.Apparently, he has completed his IIM course. And could not talk to him further, as his phone switched off.He sounded somewhere outside, probably with hangover of last night with a phone with low battery charge.Nevertheless, the brief chat chat with him was nice. He has got into some retail firm in kuwait.Though, he sounded not so happy, he said would join the firm.Seems-like, he prefers to be some Indian company. Nice to hear that , atleast some IIM grad wants to stay in India(for whatever the reson outcome is important here).

Otherwise, was learning about Current Account and Capital account today.

Current account contains Balance of Trade(BOT) and Balance on Invisible(BOI).

BOT is the net trade on "Goods" ie. export-import.

BOI is the same thing wrt to services. Also, net Remmitence, net tourism, net education and medical treatment also fall under BOI.

Total of BOI and BOT if "positive" then we have a surplus and if "negative" we have a deficit. This is famously known as CURRENT ACCOUNT DEFICIT(CAD).

The third and the final account through which foreign exchange is managed is Capital account.

Investments, borrowings,NRI deposits, External assistance are accounted in this account.

Our  CAD is finaced through Captital a/c inflows.
If a country fails to stem the deficit then it is in a Balance of payament crisis.

Most often countries borrows to meet their deficit, as they dont have the sovereignty to print money( like the option available in the case of fiscal deficit).

Currently India is going through a high CAD crisis. It is as high as 4.3% of GDP.With its deficit brother(Fiscal deficit) also at alarming level, needless to say  Indian economy is in a bad shape.

Only good news is that he have enough Foreign reserve to hedge the current crisis, but forex is depleting with intimidating Capital a/c inflow.
And, China has a Current account surplus.

Bye Bye 2nd April 2012.

Its been a long day.Had tried to grasp some economy concepts, though not completed as I have liked to. However, its  after some days that I have put in some decent work on economy. So quite happy about that.

Still some concepts are not very clear in my mind.Probably with time and usage it would get better.

Between, withdrew 8K from  my a/c for the Rent payment. Each time I see my bank balance it send shiver down my spine.

Tough times ahead. And, definitely don't want to think about my Educational loan which have undoubtedly rendered into a Non Performing Asset for the bank.

Also, my father retires from service on 20th of Jan 2013. By then I should have more certainty on my Life.

Hope, all ends well. Good night.

Khan Academy; Hats Off.

http://www.khanacademy.org/

Amazing work by Mr khan.A large repository of teaching videos.Maths,Physics,Chemistry plus lot many.

Really impressed I am that i spent my last 1 hr surfing through the videos.

Long live Slaman Khan.

2nd APRIL,2012; Stopped THE HINDU

Reading two papers was too much for me.When I look back to my last few months, all I have done probably is reading two newspaper. And now, prelims exam so near I am really hard pressed for time as Geo,history , Eco staring at me.So, I have decided to drop one newspaper- The Hindu.

Meanwhile, bought economic survey- huge book; with my  speed  I would take atleast 15 days to complete that. And further, I think I should drop the plan of reading Year Book. Its a mt.Everest in itself.

I need to accept I am bogged down in the uncertainties of the subjects. This is where a good tutor comes handy.
A guiding light when we lose sight & tend to stray away from the path.

I have changed a lot, I found my myself alone in the crowded tea shop today. People around were so happy to be, discussing current affairs topic & like wise stuffs.Everyone had someone to talk to.

How did I become content with myself so much??- Its a mystery per se.

Economy :GDP Concepts.

PRODUCT: it is the output of the economy. That is the total amount of good and services produced. It is equal to the total  income to  all factors of production.

DOMESTIC PRODUCT(DP):It is the total output within the geographical boundary of a country.

NATIONAL PRODUCT: DP- Income of Foriegn nationals in India+ Income of Indian nationals abroad.

GROSS: Concept used to accomodate Drepreciation.

If depreciation is reduced from the product its becomes NET.

Thus we have GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT and NET DOMESTIC PRODUCT.

Similarly, GROSS  NATIONAL PRODUCT and NET  NATIONAL PRODUCT.

FACTOR COST:its is purely the cost associated with the monetary value of goods and services.ie. excluding NET TAXES.

NET taxes= Taxes- subsidies.

After adding the taxes it becomes MARKET PRICE.

therefore, we have GDP at factor cost and GDP at market price.

GDP Deflator: Its incorporates the Inflation factor.   Once GDP is adjusted by GDP deflator, it is known as GDP at Constant prices.

Tellingly, GDP at factor cost at constant prices is the real measure of growth.

India uses this meathod for computaion of GDP.While China uses the expenditure method. There is an income method also. However, thoeretically, all the methods should give the same output for the economy.

A Different Trek.

A jouney undertook,
knowingly & unknowingly,

Chasing a Dream,
seems near & far,

An uphill task,
treacherous & thorny,

No looking back,
'fall ' is steep & scary,

But, can see the light,
with paitence & work,

In this solitude,
is 'life' & 'pain',

gladiator you are,
lonely you fight,
lonely you lose,

But,
if you win,

tough times are forgotten,
in the din of success,
'end' is sweet,
It is cherished,
and an officer is born.

1st April,2012: MOCK & FOOL'S DAY

Gave my second Mock test today. It a was difficult one.Paper 1: attempted around 50 questions while around 60 questions in paper 2.Its not at all pleasant;Paper2, how can one not complete such simple paper!!.. Though sad, its a reality with me.Have to improve on my speed, particulary reading speed.

Could not see off Ankit. He left for Surat today by evening train, probably will not see him for a long time.He has been a fast friend, and really a good person. We had some nice time together-College,lucknow trip, and later in Noida.

I wish his aspiration get fulfilled for its been a long time he has been striving.Hope Singapore brings fresh & rejuvenating life into him.All the Best my friend.

So, its like I have taken 2 days off as have not studied for last 2 days.Need to do this.bye..

Between Happy Fool's Day.

what are we doing????

Syrian Issue:I think India made a wrong decision by voting for the resolution, and it makes our foreign policy more amorphous & myopic.

Srilankan Resolution (UNHRC): Another unpleasant  move, though on domestic political compulsion.More importantly, Does US have a moral right to move a resolution of this kind???

Maldives: India failed to assess the real situation, as an fallout made a "statement of support" for the move(later read as a "coup') only to realize that Nasheed have a strong a backing from the people.

Further, India mis-judged Bhattarcharya 's Kids case in Norway and lost itself in the stained waters of shame, lacking sense and sight.

Is India still vying for  permanent UNSC seat??  Should it??

Probably, India should first have a clear cut foreign policy.

Reading habit.

.. long time.Life has so much changed.World around me has shrink-ed,to this wee bit of space on the precarious first floor building, in the congested part of Delhi.Have been days that I have not spoken to anyone. There have days I have forgotten to eat. But, then I tried to read books and muster some knowledge. Most often I lost, in the fight to read attentively.Reading is an art, and reading with good concentration a gift.More realistically speaking, it is a part of the cultural capital that one gets through the process of socialization. Moreover, its a product of gradual process and it is foolish to believe that one can learn this skill in few days.Furthermore, it is more than foolish to not make a start. So [here I'm] making a start. But,feels like an inane toddler among the contemporaries.
